You can play however you want. This OP was just giving info that:
1. You are not actually competing with most of the people in your arena.
2. The top people in your arena very likely already have a chat, or will eventually.
3. With very minimal effect on your play style you can focus your efforts on your ACTUAL opponents (those fighting for your payout), by being in such a chat, and being mindful of other's payouts.
4. In addition to getting absolutely no benefit whatsoever from sniping at other people's payouts, you very well may end up getting 50+ people ganging up on you. You end up losing crystals for no good reason.
All of those things remain true even if it doesn't sound like your cup of tea. So ignore it at your own peril. It's your choice. But the OP provided good info for those that didn't know the above, and may want to use that knowledge to make more crystals, and waste less in arena.
Thank you for this nice breakdown. #4 is especially for people saying that they want to snipe people so they get a better payout and/or to prevent others. It's likely to backfire which is why I think getting into a shard chat will be better for you and for everyone else.
-Even if you want to only play the benefit of yourself, this is probably the best thing to do.
-If you don't want to make friends, you can still join the shard chat to exchange payout times and never talk to them again. You can use this information to make your runs more efficient and less stressful.
-If you think it's cheating, well it's not. It's not against any rules setup by the game. It might be against whatever you think the rules should be in arena, but those aren't what everyone else agreed to so you can't logically complain about their tactics. Basically, don't hate the players, hate the game. Ask CG to make arena more efficient such as giving payouts depending on highest rank hit at any point in the day.
-If you think shard chats turn into a secret cabal plotting against everyone else, it certainly has not been that way in my experience. It's just a way to make this flawed system more efficient. Of course, yours may be different but I would recommend trying to find your shard chat and evaluating from there. We have not excluded anyone from our shard chat and everyone has said that they are glad they found us.
-It's not about entitlement. We aren't trying to say we're entitled to anything, just that this way seems to be more efficient. I'm not entitled to any rank. In either system I can still get top rewards. It's just that with the cooperation method, it is a lot less stressful and time consuming.
-It's not about participation trophies. It's about making the flawed system more efficient. On a sidenote, this is a total strawman argument, thanks Nikoms for the response to that one.
-It's not about whining or being a wimp. The whole reason this is an issue is that AI defense is terrible so almost no one can keep the top due to skill. It's about efficiency and less stress. If you want to brag about how you do things the harder and more stressful way, go right ahead.
At the end of the day, if you still don't want to cooperate with others, that's fine then do your thing. I'm not asking you to change your mind. You do you. I do think that's a terrible idea for general life behavior, but this is just a game and I realize your actions in game may not reflect your actions in the rest of your life. I was just trying to help out people by informing them of something that might be affecting them without them knowing about it.
