It's unfortunate, but most likely they are right. It will blow over, eventually. Old players that this game was founded on will leave, new suckers will sign up. But not before the game continues to plummet on Apple Store and Google Play and their budget gets cut.
Not communicating because you are hard at work, is one thing, though still inexcusable Eventually, it becomes not communicating because you have no pride in your product and want to avoid issues. I find it hard to be the former more and more.
Personally I can't ever think of a time where they would be so hard at work that they can't devote 5 min at the end of their day to post on the forums and say that they're working on this and this right now so stay tuned.
If I were a game Dev, I would be posting updates on issues like this daily AT THE MINIMUM, if not even every couple hours. It's not hard to post "sorry but it's taking time we're working on fixing _____"
