Recent player retirements

Capital Games, I have debated writing this for the last 6 months, but we are approaching a critical moment for this game that I love. I am a guild leader of a 550M GP guild and I have seen 10% of my players leave the game in 2024, all for the same reason. I have talked with other guild leaders and they have the same issue with players retiring from the game after years of playing, with similar stories. It is becoming so prevalent that I am concerned about the diminishing player base over time.

The reason for these player departures is ‘overpowered’ Datacrons. Datacrons themselves are not the problem as they can have their place in the game boosting underutilized units/squads. The core problem is the ‘overpowered’ nature of them. I hear the same story over and over, a GL that took 9 months to farm, level, gear and Mod did not even do any damage to a squad because of an opponent’s God-Tier lvl 9 Datacron. Ask any guild leader how frustrating it is to watch your guild in TW have a dozen failed attempts with Top-Tier GL squads lose to an opposing non-GL squad jut because of an overpowered lvl 9 Datacron. Or ask any player in GAC that lost a match because of an overpowered Datacron, it really takes the enjoyment down a bit.

The solution is fairly simple. If future releases of Datacron power were scaled back a bit, you would still have them serve their intended purpose without frustrating players soooo much that they quit the game entirely. Datacrons can still give squads an advantage, without making them God-Tier and in some cases nearly unbeatable. If you reduced future DC power, even just a bit, the player-base frustration level might subside and players would not quit. I am sure that you can see the data of the number of players that have stopped playing over the last year, and I am telling you from first hand experience, that this one of the primary issues. Feel free to survey Guild Leaders and Officers and you would be able to identify that this issue is pervasive. I can send a list of Ally Codes of players (many of which played for 7+ years and spent $$) to prove my point and you can look up my conversations with them. In addition, there are several other players that I have had to talk down from nearly quitting the game due to ‘overpowered’ Datacrons. Just today one of my top players wrote in chat “These data crons make this game no longer fun to play. Been playing 8.5 years, least fun I’ve had”.

I love this game and am not ranting here, I am trying to shed some light on the reason for so much of the player exodus and hope that this can impact the issue going forward.

Sincerely,

Abcs – Leader, Abcs of the Force

  • EA has taken the wrong track from the beginning based solely on anticipated dollars. Their GAC centric focus was the first stupid step. The introduction of datacrons and now this new “episode quest track” just put more nails in the coffin.

  • Just ditch the datacrons already.  They add nothing but frustration to the game.

But the purpose of the God Tier Datacrons is to have a temporary GL level toon, that the players will have to pay for over and over as they expire.

It's a solution to not being able to introduce actual GLs every month.
