The entirety of the datacron system is garbage, not just the RNG factor in getting specific abilities. Some decision maker at CG decided this would be a good thing to increase revenue. That same person doesn't play swgoh, nor engage with the community as other employees are paid to deal with the wrath and aggravation of players.
At the least, there are other parts of the game like Jabba's less crazy requirements, the new mod system, and other road ahead info that seem worthwhile.
Datacrons are the "extreme" phase of SWGOH. Extreme garbage, extreme Meta abilities, extreme revenue chasing, extreme RNG factors, etc etc.
