In 2021 CG made a big adjustment to how defense worked. They said defense was being too easily bypassed. Wat's weapon tech was the answer to everything. CG basically admitted they were having a hard time designing kits and if the game was going to go on, they had to bite the bullet and make this change.
I myself was one of the short-sighted zombies booing back then. The same complaints went around. P2W, CG hates F2P and want to kill any semblance of strategy or clever play, this is to protect the krakens. And you know what? The booing crowd was wrong. The devs were entirely right. They had identified an issue before it became too big a problem to tackle and made a change to the game's environment that forced everyone to get with the program and adapt or sink.
Now, history is repeating. I mean, it's the exact same scenario. CG has announced that they've identified a growing problem. They explained what it is, why it's a problem, they explained the possible solutions they had considered, they explained why they arrived at Relic Delta as the solution, they explained that they know this adjustment might be unpopular and will take time to get used to, but they have to do it for the long-term health of the game. Back then the mechanic that needed a big adjustment was the defense stat, this time it's relics.
If you were playing before the Great Nerf of 2021, you've clealy found a way to thrive in the new environment. If you're a smart player, you will find a way to thrive in the new environment with Relic Delta. In fact, along with making the change to the relic system, CG has also given you the tools to adapt: the changes to the relic economy have made building relics of all tiers easier. This is the new paradigm: adapt or lose to opponents who do it better than you.
Yes, some rosters begin with an advantage. A late game roster like mine with a bunch of high relic characters already in place is given a boost in some aspects. In others, some of my roster has been handed a new disadvantage: the adaptation I need to make is to improve my relics across the board.
Resource management is a huge part of this game. I have 307 characters unlocked. 296 of them are G13, 10 are G12, the last one is Stormtrooper Luke who is outside of the old gear system for 3 months.
You say that this means I am bad at PVP, that my R3 Hoth Rebel Soldier (3 relic levels a lot of my opponents don't have in their rosters) shows that I should be ranked higher in GAC. I said that this means I'm better at the resource management part of the game (if not necessarily the PVP combat part of the game). In fact, if I've managed to outgear my opponents despite being apparently bad at PVP and therefore winning less crystals than I could have had if I were better at PVP, that goes to show that I am even better at the resource management part of the game than the raw numbers suggest. 😃
"Strategy is dead!" No. The old strategy is dead. The old strategy dictates that low relic Phoenix can counter high relic Inquisitors. That low relic Traya can counter high relic Gungans. That R7 BKM can reliably counter R9 LV Clones. The new strategy requires first having relic level parity or superiority to give your team the best chance of winning. You have the tools to mitigate the disadvantage of Relic Delta. The new strategy is making relic resource management a more impactful part of PVP than it was up until a few days ago.
Adapt to the new environment like the playerbase had to do in 2021, or don't. *shrug*
