If I scrolled to the bottom of both those stores today and inadvertently purchased the items in those slots, would a thread like this be merited? Or should I have adapted my behaviour by now?
That's totally different because the act of scrolling to the bottom is not the same as taking no action (i.e. scrolling) at all. For example, I have to make 3 stops in the morning to drop off my kids before I head to work. After my 2nd stop, the path to my 3rd stop is similar to the path I would take to work. If my mind starts wandering and thinking of work-related tasks ahead, I will sometimes miss the turn for her school. My office is still a ways past this missed turn, however, so I have never actually gone all the way to work with that kiddo in the car.
I liken this to the old scroll for days shipments layout. The reason none (or at most very few) of us scrolled all the way to the bottom and then bought the wrong thing is that the act of scrolling for several seconds gave us time to realize what we were doing and required a level of focus that brought our attention back to the task at hand.
But none of that really matters. I think OP is saying it's on him this time. He just thinks it's dumb that CG made this change. I would think we could all agree to that.
When they first moved the bronzium packs from the far right to far left, I did accidentally purchase the crystal pack over at the far right once. Just too much reliance on muscle memory.
I think the current layout is actual worse than having them at bottom used to be. Sure you don't have to scroll as far, but the store was smaller back then. Bottom is easier to find while paying minimal attention, now we have to go down a few rows and stop, and the nearby crystal items are often similar.
