Road Ahead Consideration: New Players & Credits

The P2 gear improvements in the Nov 2022 RA are a step in the right direction. They're sure to help new/returning players, so thanks in advance for the upcoming changes.

Tldr: Can CG consider the credit economy on new player mechanics?

Suggestion: Perhaps a system that mimics the shard acceleration, where older characters (non-kyrotech ones) are cheaper to level up to 85 or require more training droids at the offset of less credits. It would allow players to experience more teams and even the new mod system, and relics/datacron expenses for those new teams.

Issue: The current system is a bit overwhelming for anyone who wants to jump into the game to build teams from scratch. There's a large excess of training droids and a scarcity of credits at early-to-mid game.

Math: SWGOH has 235 characters, not including ships. Each character takes 6,269,478 credits from level 1 to 85; not including 1,850,000 credits to go from 2-to-7 stars. That's 1,908,077,330 credits in total. If you earn about 50 million credits a month, which as a new player is a lot, that's 38 months or just over 3 years without even factoring other credit costs, like modding, leveling abilities, relic levels.

Closing: There's quite an uphill climb for anyone starting out, just hoping that some older mechanics can be improved upon considering the new hurdles (such as relic 8+). If you made it this far, thanks!

I am sorry, to tell people that they maybe don't have to worry about credits when they played for years until they reached end game status is not the right approach, especially after CG stated they want to help newer players to get to Relics and catch up. Credits are a huge problem when it comes to leveling up new characters/ squads and mods etc. in the early game. So if someone tries to throw in some ideas how that might be changed I think is great.

If you take your approach, everything might become better after years of playing. But if you want to keep new players playing for years, with all the new requirements they face now, some changes are needed.

People seem to forget, when the game started not even gear 12 existed so it made sense to slow the progress until they reach the maximum. But now there are double the amount of additional levels to be reached and required, gear 11 isn't worth anything anymore on most of the characters. So yes, I agree that there should be some changes considered when it comes to credits.
  • The only reason why I'm not in a credit poverty loop right now was because of Credit Heist. I guess making Resource Events slightly more common and/or adding much easier tiers could help?

Credit Heist was the original answer to the credit crunch in the beginning, and did help get over the hump.

Would I really care if they added other ways to get credits not really, because unit shards, kyro, some G12+ and relic mats is the real bottleneck (not saying they shouldn't be).
I was joking with my comment that everyone should go thru the pain of the credit crunch, because new players have no idea how much worse it was before.

Increasing or even not increasing credits will not really change much, sure you can get that new unit to level 85 faster but will most likely be useless (unlike the old days) until you can get it to Relic level which nothing they have done has sped up going from G12 to relic (not say they should speed it up).
Hell they could just get rid of credit requirement for all leveling and gearing of units and not much would change.

Agree with Lumiya 10000%. If CG wants new players to be engaged and to retain them, then helping ease older crunches like credits as a supplement to the pre-G12 gear just makes sense. These changes don't hurt the endgame players with tons of stored credits.

Unfortunately, Credit Heist doesn't make enough of an impact. At twice a month for 3-5m per heist, it won't make a dent in the outfitting of 200+ characters or the new relic/ability levels since it was first implemented.

If you're anyone who's made a f2p or even hyperdrive/p2p account recently, you know how frustrating credits are for a good while. They will literally halt your ability to play the game early on.
  • I had to sell a third of my mod inventory last month just to get enough credits to slap a Zeta on Moff Gideon so his leader ability would actually be good (it was worth it...not so much for Territory Battles). I spent way too much trying to get 3 Imperial Troopers to appropriate levels.

Needless to say, making Credit Heist more common, having more replays for them, or adding weaker tiers would be super helpful, particularly for the newer players.

Making the events more frequent, increasing the rewards, or even lessening the credit costs for abilities/levels are all great options. At this point, just anything to help out newer accounts would be great from CG.
