Very rarely.  They were updated a bit around..... 6 months ago.  Other than that, I don't remember the last time.  Years and years ago.

If there's nothing else you want, then yes.  Ship credits aren't good value in cantina.  With Squad Arena currency though, I buy credits rather than shards for shard shop currency.

Not that I can remember with those currencies.  You get ally point currency stuff here and there and shard shop currency, but not the 2 you mentioned, that I'm aware of anyway.
