Ships dependent on characters??

So will ships be better depending on the characters Level/Star/Gear? Meaning if i have a 4 star Biggs, will his ship be unlocked and 4 star? Will the ships be dependent on the character which will h...

I think ships belong to characters or certain character types (x-wing for Biggs, Wedge; Millenium Falcon for Hans, Land or Rey).
You can consider it a "Gear Type" for new battles.
