Spend spend spend

Remember the days where you could go to the store and purchase a game for $49.99 and play it until you beat it?

Now I don't mind spending money on a good game. The company and devs need to make money and they deserve it when they put a great game out there like SWGOH. However, this is getting out of control!

To take a toon like Shore from 4* to 7* requires 250 shards or 63 purchases of 4 Shards in the pack for a whopping 320 crystals each!! That's 20,000 crystals or $100+ just to level up a character and make them available in Raids or viable in Arena. That's not Gear, or Abilities, or Mods... just Stars from 4-7. What the!!!

Now your first response could be, just save the crystals daily and use them to farm shards. Now, the thing about that is, there already isn't enough to go around to farm toons, farm gear and mods. So, say I do budget 320 crystals a day (which is 2 refreshes for gear and 1 in cantina) to pick up 4 shards a day. That would take 60 days!!! 60 days for farming a toon!! We need 5 to fight anywhere but let's spend 10 months farming 5 toons from 4* to 7* that will eventually be obsolete at the end of those 10 months!! If anything, GG has shown us this! (Why go after him or anyone in the shard shop?!? Waste of effort!)

The next response could be about my experience or time playing. I have held 1st in arena, compete in Heroic Tank and have stopped farming toons in Arena and GW as I have them all. I've been around.

Then you could say, that they have always catered to the spenders and they are going to keep doing it until people stop paying. To this I respond, spenders will always be spenders. It's a completely ignorant approach to business to cater to a customer that is already doing what you want them to do. That's how you go out of business... only pay attention to one type of client.

That being said, my main point to the creators of the game is this, you are missing a huge opportunity!!

I'll give this thought, to make $1 million, you can either sell 1 person an item for $1 million or sell 1 million items for $1. If I need to explain this point any more to whoever is reading this from the company, then you need some serious help and you should replace your current strategist!!

Quick Question: How do you stop people from paying for a game? You start making it about the money instead of the game. The game will make money if it's good! You guys started that way and kept progressing. But, You have crossed over that line, into it's all about money. Once people get the whiff that it's going to take 2-3 months on one toon and they realize their goals for a game are now 1 year away... they will get bored, they will leave. I hope they do!! But, more so, I hope that you guys change before that happens.

So sad!

  • Heres something I do when it comes to getting toons in different shipments. We'll use the Jawas, since I've resently gotten them (except the Jawa Engineer) to 7*. What I do is take 1 month, and do nothing but save resources. I'm talking like uber savings. Your daily challenge says train a character? Get that 1* training droid, and use 1 of them in any toon to minimize the credits you'll be using per day. Same thing with mods, just upgrade it once and you're good. So after your month is over, and you have about 30k war tokens, cantina currency, squad area currency, and you have a lot of Guild currency, at every daily energy refresh, go to each shop, and buy shards for each character. The key to doing this tho is that you HAVE to stay on top of it. Set your notifications on for the game so you can see when the refresh comes. Or memerize the times your energy refreshes through out the day.

I counted the days, and on Jan 1st 2017, I started my grind for my Jawa team, and on Jan 15th I got all of my Jawas (except the Jawa Engineer) to 7 stars. Took me about 2 weeks.

Now of course this method is very very situational, but it works.

Another thing you gotta remember is that this is a game that REQUIRES patience, and it's meant for you to stick around as long as the game is around. ALSO remember too, all of the chromemium exclusive characters we see in the game, will be eventually put into a shop or put into a cantina node. I mean look at Lando. He has two nodes in the cantina, so they can easily just swich one of those out with a newer chatacter. Lando aint the only "Multi-node-shard-grind-character" in the game as well.
  • I refuse point blank to spend on this game simply because what they try to sell is waaaay overpriced imo.

Most other games have packages available from say £1.99 ( im in uk ) which offer reasonable returns up to the high end of £40 plus

Catering to all is a much more profitable and inclusive marketing strategy that focuses on long term investment from all quarters.

    Just my opinion
  • Isn't "worth" determined by how much people are willing to spend on something? If so, then everything in the game is "worth" the price because people have been buying stuff for over a year.
  • Ok so... F2P, P2P, guppies, dolphins, whales, krackens, what are the delineations? What are the dollar amounts for each level? Anyone got a chart to keep it straight?

calling it an ignorant approach is ignorant, it obviously works. I have more faith in EA to let their business flourish than in some random guy on a forum who thinks he'd do a better job.

Do you seriously think EA doesn't know this? I mean..come on man.

that said, i'm f2p for various reasons. Mainly because it's not that much more fun if i spend money compared to playing for free. Also because you can never stop spending in most freemium games, it's too expensive to whale and now i have to oppertunity to stop at any time without having buyers remorse or some weird feeling that I need to continue because i dropped 500 dollars on the game.

I actually do think that they have a bad model and it's not just them. I mean, Im not going to give them the solution for free... but they certainly have a few different options that would allow them to maximize cash flowing in and keeping everyone happy. There is no one in the world that wouldn't pay for something that they enjoy doing... yet they continue to have lots of F2P players... Like I said.. they are missing out :)

like i said, i have more faith in a company like EA to maximize their profits than some random guy on a forum. Saying they're missing out because there are lots of f2p players is a good indication that you probably have no clue what you're talking about.

    +1

"I'm not going to give the solution for free...". I literally laughed out loud.

Love that all of you guys said these things and then they come out with a pack for 2999!!! Lmao... yep, they sure know what they are doing. You guys are so smart. Lol
