The highest jump isn't necessarily the hardest battle. Not sure if you're under the impression it is, but it looks like you are. It's just bad luck that you're unable to beat the one showing up in the right panel so often.
Defeating a team in the middle panel twice (different teams, same panel) could potentiallly lead to a better rank than the team you couldn't beat wich was initially in the right panel. Or better yet, after beating a team in the midde panel, the next highest jump (right panel) turns out to be a beatable team.
I guess that this change could lead to having to refresh a bit more often to find a team that has a high rank, but is beatable. If this process takes very long, it's not the game's fault, your team is just too weak compared to the others in that rank region.

The middle panel is one panel. All these players complaining about refreshing the opponents for 15 minutes, looking for one fight, had three panels.
no, they had one panel. The fight they were looking for couldn't possibly show up in the middle or left panel.
The problem was that they could beat every team on the entire leaderboard, but had to refresh over 200 times for the max jump to show up.
Not doing max jumps often resulted in having to refresh with crystals or settling for a lower rank at pay-out, so it would cost them crystals only because the max jump didn't show up within 30 or so refreshes.
