Tantive IV Ship Concept
The smallest Capital Ship on the Holotables, on the complete opposite end of the size spectrum from the Executor
Unit Name: Tantive IV
Crew Member(s): Princess Leia
Affiliation: Light Side, Capital Ship
Tags: Rebel
Era: Era of the Rebellion
Inherited from her father, Princess Leia’s corvette saw use with running blockades, delivering aid to those in need while also covertly aiding the Rebellion. The Tantive IV eventually escaped Scarif with the Death Star Plans, which proved crucial for the Rebellion’s victory in the Battle of Yavin.
Attacks and Abilities
Basic: Our Most Desperate Hour
Deal Special damage 4 times to target enemy and remove 10% Turn Meter from them.
If the Tantive IV was called to assist out of its turn, all allies recover 5% Health. If they already had 100% Health, they instead recover 5% Protection. This recovery is doubled for allies with Death Star Plans.
Special 1: Slip Through the Empire's Fingers (Cooldown: 4)
Target ally gains Evasion Up and Tenacity Up for 2 turns. If they have Outmanoeuvre, they recover 50% Health. The first time this ability is used, grant target other ally Damage Immunity for 1 turn (limit once per battle).
This ability gains additional effects based on target ally’s faction:
- Cargo Ship: Call them to assist, dealing -30% less damage.
- Phoenix: Target ally can’t be critically hit for 1 turn.
- Red Squadron: These buffs can’t be dispelled.
- Scoundrel: Target ally and the Tantive IV instead gain Perfect Defence for 1 turn.
- Unaligned Force User: Target ally recovers 20% Protection.
If there are no other active allies, trigger these effects for the Tantive IV.
Special 2: Distribute Relief Aid (Cooldown: 6)
Dispel all debuffs on all other allies and they recover 19,770 Health, then they recover an additional 19,770 Health for each other ally present.
This ability gains additional effects based on that ally’s role:
- Attackers: Recover 50% Protection.
- Healers/Supports: Deal +50% more damage on their next attack for each Damage Over Time effect on them.
- Tanks: Gain Deflective Ward until the next time they are damaged.
The Tantive IV recovers 1,977 Health and Protection for each other ally healed by this ability. For each instance an ally with Death Star Plans was healed (max 5 instances per ally), the Tantive IV recovers an additional 1,977 Health and Protection.
Ultimate: Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi, You're My Only Hope (Princess Leia)
Limit one use per battle. For each turn taken by a Capital Ship, an enemy Reinforcement escapes the battle (stacking, max 4 enemy Reinforcements). All other Rebel allies gain Death Star Plans for the rest of the battle, which can’t be copied, dispelled, or prevented.
The Tantive IV gains +25% of the combined base Max Health, Max Protection, Defence, Potency, and Tenacity of all other deployed Rebel allies. These stat gains are doubled if that ally was a Red Squadron or Rebel Y-Wing ally. For each Red Squadron or Rebel Y-Wing ally in Reinforcements, the Tantive IV gains +25% of their combined base Max Health, Max Protection, Defence, Potency, and Tenacity. Additionally, gain +50% Critical Avoidance. The Tantive IV gains the Tank role tag and can now be buffed, damaged, Debuffed, healed, and targeted by ally and enemy abilities. Then, Taunt for 3 turns, and all other active Rebel allies gain 25% Turn Meter for each enemy Reinforcement that left the battle (stacking, max 100%). If an enemy Reinforcement was Empire or Sith, Turn Meter gained this way can’t be prevented.
The first time the Tantive IV would be reduced to 1% Health or be taken control of by the enemy, it loses all status effects on itself (can’t be prevented), is inflicted with Captive for the rest of the battle (can’t be copied, dispelled, evaded, prevented, resisted), loses 100% Turn Meter, loses the Tank role tag, and can no longer be buffed, damaged, debuffed, healed, or targeted by ally and enemy abilities.
If there are no other deployed allies and no allies in Reinforcements, instead gain +19770 Max Health and Max Protection, +50% Critical Avoidance, Defence, Potency, and Tenacity, and take -50% reduced damage from enemy attacks.
Death Star Plans: +50% Offence. Abilities gain additional effects.
Unique: Blockade Runner
While a Red Squadron ally, Phoenix ally, Crewless Tank ally, or Scoundrel Attacker ally is active, all Rebel allies are immune to Isolate. Whenever the Tantive IV is inflicted with Ability Block or Burning, dispel it if possible and the Tantive IV takes True damage equal to 5% of its Max Protection, which can’t be prevented or reduced.
While there are no other deployed allies, the Tantive IV must be Captive, destroyed, or removed to end the battle.
If there are no deployed allies at the start of the battle, take a bonus turn. During this bonus turn, the Tantive IV can only use Call Reinforcements and Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi, You’re My Only Hope.
Reinforcement Bonus: Rebel Reinforcements ignore the target enemy’s Protection for 1 turn. If Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi, You’re My Only Hope was previously used, Rebel Reinforcements gain Death Star Plans for the rest of the battle, which can’t be copied, dispelled, or prevented.
Inspiration:
- The Tantive IV first appeared on the big screen in 1977, when Star Wars was introduced to the world for the first time
- The opening of 'Star Wars: A New Hope' puts us straight in the action, as the Tantive IV holds off the massive Star Destroyer Devastator above the desert planet Tatooine. The already-damaged Rebel ship loses its main reactor to a well-placed shot from the Devastator, leading to its capture and subsequent boarding. This was key for coming up with the Tantive IV’s gimmick - it becomes a Tank (quite a bulky one at that) and acts like a regular ship, one both allies and enemies can target and if the Tantive IV would fall below 1% Health or be controlled, it’s Captured for the rest of the battle. It still provides allies benefits from the Unique, and it doesn’t count as defeated until it’s the last ship standing and captured or destroyed.
- R2-D2 and C-3PO escaping with the Death Star Plans ensured the survival of the Rebellion but also changed the fate of Luke Skywalker, a young farmboy who yearned to leave his planet and find adventure in the stars. With how pivotal the Death Star Plans were to the Battle of Yavin, this inspired synergy with Rebel ships from that battle (Red Squadron, Crewless Tanks, and Scoundrel Attackers), but also inspired this ship’s Ultimate ability “Help Me Obi-Wan Kenobi, You’re My Only Hope”, where the droids use an escape pod to flee to the planet below as a number of enemy reinforcements chase after them and leave the battle, benefitting Rebels and letting the Tantive IV act as a Tank.
- In Rebels Season 2 Episode 12, Phoenix cell successfully “steals” 3 hammerhead corvettes from Princess Leia while Lothal is on planetary lockdown, keeping her involvement hidden while she delivered relief to the citizens of Lothal. Some Phoenix synergy was sprinkled in as a result.
- Like her father before her, Princess Leia took on many diplomatic and mercy missions throughout her life. Distribute Relief Aid was inspired by these missions, healing allies and dispelling debuffs while granting added bonuses and healing itself.
- When recording her message to Obi-Wan, Leia begs for his help, calling the Rebellion’s situation “our most desperate hour”. This (and the Taim & Bak H9 turbolasers on the ship that fired at the Devastator) was adapted into the Basic ability, dealing decent damage and pushing back the enemy while also healing allies when assisting them.
- Leia’s scene with Tarkin was too good not to use. Slip Through The Empire’s Fingers makes an ally harder to damage or debuff while providing potential recovery, assists, or buffs to specific allies.
