While this was quite a long time ago, (and I don't have the energy to go hunt for the specific posts), I remember this quite differently.
IIRC, Geo was supposed to be 4 phases with 24 hours each. Due to technical limitations in how the game mode was originally implemented, they learned that they could not have some guilds doing TB for 4 days and others doing it for 6 days. So they extended the Geo phases to 36 hours to make it also run 6 days and punted the problem to a future update, which of course never happened.
Thinking the change was in response to customer feedback is either incredibly generous or naïve, depending on how cynical you are. That said, I do think the 36 hour phases ended up being better for international guilds (like mine) and the transition back to 24 hours has been very frantic.
Fair enough - you're right - that was a long time ago.
What you are remembering is even older. Hoth TB was originally going to be 12 hour phases that ran only on the weekends. The extension to 24 hour phases was a result of feedback to that.
