I have made the mistake of ignoring him in a tournament battle and I don't think you can make him fast enough to take enough turns to make him "unkillable", but I had a 4 to 2 setup when I started to target him. If you ended in a 3 to 1 or 2 to 1, he would probably go regularly enough to never die.
That's a good point. A properly modded Zaul definitely has some brutal stats.
