It is beneficial to players, they won't let it stand. If players couldn't complete the event because of a bug, they'd just say, "well, we'll fix it at some point, sorry!" You got something they want you to spend money/resources to get. That's just the reality of it.
If they're that greedy then I'll play a different game. As will many others I suspect. No point pouring more hours into a dying game at that point.
