The Only Good Way to Introduce Relic Delta

Gear took us to a certain power level, then relics took over.

Levelling does some things for us, promoting does other work.

I hate the RD idea, but here's a variant that I would not hate:

Implement two new improvement paths: Force Defense and Force Attack (I do not love these names, but we'll use them for now)

Just as relics are not available to toons under g13, FD/FA are not available to toons under r9. There are 4 levels of each, and you gain modifiers based on the Attacker's FA - Defender's FD. Since toons below r9 cannot access FA/FD, their relevant stat will always be 0.

FD/FA levels are acquired using a totally new resource. If CG wants Relic Delta to be ubiquitous, they make the resource freely available, no bottleneck. This would closely simulate their proposal for Relic Delta, but would only benefit toons that are r9.

r9 PvE enemies can be given FD/FA levels as necessary for balancing a particular challenge, but they can also be left off so as to face an "ordinary" r9 challenge.

This causes r9 to matter more, and to be a more attractive target for spending. Toons like C-3PO which traditionally do not benefit from high relics are suddenly at risk from r9s with AoE attacks and FA. It's also possible to make certain teams resistant to certain counters, but only if you take that team to r9.

The arms race that CG wishes to instigate is preserved while battles between toons below r9 are untouched. Meanwhile, the player still matters, because the change rolls out - however quickly or slowly - first on toons that the PLAYER chooses.

Again, I'm still against this change, but there are easy ways to reward the ppl who chase high relics without killing the value of players' choices, which is what the current proposal for RD does. FA/FD is simply one way forward that serves as a proof-of-concept that whatever CG is trying to "fix" or "accomplish," it is possible to do while respecting the players and the game. This one uses the actual Relic Delta framework, but shifts it to FA/FD-Delta instead. But other paths might not use the RD framework at all and still manage to rebalance the costs spent acquiring relics with the rewards manifested after achieving them.

If they choose to implement the RD system as proposed when it has been proven that respectful choices exist, then we can feel certain that CG is disrespecting us not because it must, but because it wants to.

  • The only good way to introduce the Relic Delta is to not do it.  Modify R9 to make mastery go up to 90 instead of 70, or introduce special Kraken Datacrons that say "If the enemy team is owned by a serf, they are instantly defeated and will never see me in GAC or TW again.  Filthy Peons" There is no respectful way to introduce Relic Delta.  The statement above is exactly what it is meant to do and how it is making the player base feel.  Complete Pay to Win which only the ultra rich Saudi investors and Russian Oligarchs that are playing can afford.

  • I can see the problem they are trying to address. I am not the only one who has thought this could be a good reward for those who relic high but I am also concerned about how this will impact the game as a whole.

R9's are not limited to those who pay so I believe the P2W or P2P is extremely exaggerated but they do require effort in the raid.

The problem I see is R8 and R9 are not heavily incentivised. Players who actually take on TB units for platoons and missions or relic to R8 and R9 for the raid heavily carry other players in their guild for TB and Raid rewards. It is most likely those with the loudest complaints. The personal path is not significant enough for highscore contributors on the raid. Each guild I have been in has had its share of backpack Yoda's who focus solely on GAC and contribute too little to TB and raid, but continue to benefit from the high score contributors who carry them. Recruitment is too complex for a zero-tolerance approach, as there seems always to be a shortage of players to fill all gaps.

So how else could we benefit from taking characters like Jedi Vanguard and GMT to R9 personally?

Could those who relic high for raid get an improved personal track?

PVP seems to motivate all players as the largest source of crystals, but perhaps reworking the boosts R9 provide may sway more players, as it's possible to still do well with superior mods at lower relics. I reserve for requirements and very good tanks. To encourage us to invest in obtaining and using such materials, a significant increase in relevant stats for the role of character would be more tempting.

    • Offensive Offence or CD
    • Support Tenacity or Potency
    • Tanks Protection

As Relic Delta is described, it should not impact conquest, as it would make feats so much more complicated to achieve. However, if it worked as 2, this could be manageable.

I am sure there are better ways for them to achieve their goal, and it's more helpful to make constructive feedback so they can balance their approach. So what would motivate players to improve raid scores to obtain R8 and R9 mats and apply these to characters?
