The psychology of getting only 1 damage per attack.
I won't go into ALL of the reasons players are HIGHLY disappointed with this update, there are quite enough of those.
I want to discuss how it feels to a player when an attack is launch and the result of that attack is 1 damage. In a word, ineffectual! But, you could also use many other words like useless, pitiful, inept, and pathetic. This is what is feels like when players send a shiny new and exciting SWGOH character into battle, in this new Coliseum game mode.
I know a lot of people are calling CG out for a blatant cash grab with this new mode. However, it's worse than that! Because even the people that are willing to pay money, like I did, are left feeling like idiots. Think about what you are doing psychologically to your paying customers! People that are "pay to win" in these kind of games expect that their payment will give them a powerful advantage over the game and other players that play the game. What they are left with instead is a damage reduction system that brings attacks down to a single point of damage. Completely nullifying that feeling of powerfulness that should be part of getting a new character in this game. Essentially this erodes the trust between the players that are willing to pay and CG. If a paying player cannot trust that what they are spending on will give them and edge in the game.... why pull out your wallet in the first place? Just wait for the toons to come to the game slowly and build them up in free to play mode.
When you further examine this, why would any "whale" be willing to spend at all in this new system? This new system completely removes the advantage of paying for a new character and having them before everyone else. Since all of the new characters will be released into the game at the same time, ALL players now just have to hoard enough materials to level them up on release day. This totally removes any advantage from a pay to win player. While the might seem more "fair" to the SWGOH community as a whole, it completely breaks the current monetization system that keeps the game alive. Like it or not, the free to play players are able to enjoy this game because there are people willing to pay for these advantages. THAT is the business model of this game. This new update is threatening to destroy that model, which will unfortunately bring about the end of the game.
in short... CG is making its paying customers feel like idiots. CG has removed the incentive for paying players to pay. CG is destroying the trust between the paying customer and themselves. In the end, if this situation isn't fixed, the game will cease to exist.
