I feel bad for this generation of gamers. It's sad that gaming has come to this. You don't deserve this. It's going to take a company with true creativity and vision to break the shackles. They've all lost sight of what's important. We need a Richard Garriott of mobile games to emerge.
All I can say is vote with your time and money. It's the only metrics that matter anymore.
I'm not saying change shouldnt happen, but what caliber of games could you play for free back in the day, without pirating it?
Also, it is more than likely that the people who are spending money on this game are from the older generation of gamers, not the newer one.
Even the 100% f2p model is still a fraction of the game (for a time), which technically has value since their cost is $0.
My issue is if you look at the new content as a game in the game, it still costs over $1,000 to enjoy in a reasonable amount of time. And that is just a character, not even content. A full blown A level console game costs < $100.
And if you aren't going to spend, it's going to take 3 to 4 months to obtain if you are competitive in the arenas, which is getting harder and harder to maintain any competitive edge without spending. But if you are going to spend, the cost is astronomical.
My other issues are a lack of replayable content for the amount of money this game makes and the genuine lack of creativity. The re-skin of prior game modes is unbelievable.
For a billion dollar game, I just would like to see a player base that holds CG more accountable. The sad part is the addiction and sunk cost fallacy will prevent that from happening.
Yes but that $1000 and "reasonable timeframe" is all subjective, and is really just not true from a general standpoint.
And again, competitive in arena..... how many players are there right now? How many play to be there?
When you look at an older shard that still has hundreds of players in it, do you really think the player at 150 is really trying to be more competitive than they already are, maybe a few sure, but many of them are happily playing 3-4 months or longer behind the meta and enjoying the game.
Yes everything is a reskin, sure.
Not sure how those relate to holding them accountable, and again, holding them accountable for your view of the game? A player spending money may just see value in what they are doing and can be happy without seeing it from your view, and may not feel a need to "hold them accountable " for the same things you do.

Everyone plays differently, and has different views on what's fun and what kind of investment we make into the fun things we have in our life. We see players try to make arguments about "whales ruin it for us by spending", and that is just not the case.
