No one would bother with arena if the rewards were any less. I know I wouldn't.
You think they are really going to hand out more 1st place rewards then they currently do and keep the payments the same??? If so keep deaming. If the number of possible 1st place finishes goes up beyond the current 24 then the payout will go down to keep it average out to the same.
I would be fine with reduced rewards to give up being summoned to my phone on 1755/1855 daily.
well, potentially there could be 1440 #1 rewards on a leaderboard each day. (in the current system)
How so? Unless I am missing something.

it's not every hour, it's at 6 o'clock on the device the game is installed on. Granted, most people don't mess with the clock on their device, so the 1440 (for every minute) is a rather large exaggeration. However some timezones are "off" half an hour, like india for example.
If i knew what i know now, i would have tempered with my clock a bit that's for sure.
