To everyone complaining about the Barriss "nerf"...

If you're thinking that fixing the bug with Barriss is a nerf, then let me let you in on a secret: now she has a soft taunt. Before the fix, you could leave her for last while she bats at you with a wet noodle. Now you have to take her out first so the rest of the team doesn't have the health bonus. If you have her, you can protect her with tanks and hammer the other team with DPS while the other team is forced to go after your high health toons.

Much easier response to this. Anyone who thinks a bug fix is a nerf. Just needs to learn the proper language to describe things, because they're not the same. If it's WAI and then they change it, it's a nerf. If it wasn't intended that way, then fixing it is called a bug fix, not a nerf, and it's dishonest to call it a nerf.

IMO a bug fix would not have had a change to the description of an ability. If the description is changed to match a "bug fix" that is a nerf.

My definition of a bug is behaviour that is not as per design. Barriss could have been designed with death ending her heal effect. The bug in this case would have been twofold.

  • The implementation of the design did not include the "ends on death" portion
  • The text also did not reflect the design intent explicitly. Daka's unique revive does not explicitly state that it ends on death. Yet it does. That would be an example of a text bug.

From the official response, #1 is true. It would seem very coincidental that #2 would also have resulted but that is entirely possible.

  • Daka unique states she revives them which she can not do if she is dead.

Other team affecting Uniques that came before bariss zeta specifically had the words to indicate they stop on death. Gk crit immunity didn't and that was a bug that was fixed.

By "correcting" barris zeta description to match both the intention and the fix does this mean we can assume all Uniques continue after death unless stated otherwise in the ability? IMO changing Barriss description reinforces the intention that all Uniques persist after death unless stated otherwise.

If so chirrut is bugged. His unique does not state that hot gained on a crit stops with his death, yet it does. It is actually worded very similar to barris prior to today's fix.

The purpose of an ability description is to provide the intentions of how they were designed to work. As a player we can only go with what history shows which has been uniques continue unless indicated otherwise. We shouldn't have to play the guessing game as to the intentions of the designers.

So yeah bariss was changed but the over all status of unique abilities that affect the team is still very much up in the air with no response as to how they should be working.

It really doesn't matter if this was a bug fix or a nerf just please make it consistent!

Unfortunately textual context is just as subject to errors as other content. Definitely if both arise at the same time, it will be unclear whether a bug or a nerf has occured. In this case, the devs have stated it is the former.

I have always been of the view that uniques persist through death unless stated otherwise. Right now there is no consistency or official DEV confirmation that this is the case. Seems much more sense to state "This ability ceases when XXX is defeated" than "This ability persists after XXX has been defeated" or "While alive..." vs "Even after death...". We have never seen the latters in the game so far. The idea that all "uniques" should cease on death is just that, an assumption of the intent of "uniques" behaviour until confirmed by the devs.
  • She's still going to be great. Have to spend time on her while her squad make sleezy with your team.
  • Barris really needed this "nerf". Honestly it was hardly a nerf but there needed to be a way for zeta Barris to fight zeta Barris with out a gaurenteed time out.

Yeah she's still very good with the right team around her. Did some testing with my arena shard before the zeta was removed. The original time out team with barriss and GK never made it easy to kill barriss first. These teams still work very well at what they are designed to do, post "nerf/fix". Less geared/modded versions will feel the impact significantly more though.
