Tournament exploit

So Ill just leave this here:

As someone who has already dropped over 1k into this tournament painfully refreshing at the top only to see people exploiting this technique to trivially surpass me, is infuriating. This is seriously something which will make me quit the game.

  • Nothing wrong here.....

    1.End this event .
    2.Give everyone a 3* version and credits/omegas.
    3.Then refund crystals spent past few days on the event.

    4.Fix the exploit.
    5.Then remake a proper Tournament not a cash grab auction house ( not every aspect of the game needs to be squeezing money out of us).
    6. Bring a detailed thread here so we can make sure you guys did it correctly and offer early feedback.

    The fact it is still up is a slap in the face.

    I have been thinking about ways to stop this buddy system and have come to the conclusion it is impossible if you can set a defense team, the buddy system will allow you to gain the top ranks.

    Some suggested solutions and why they won't stop it

    Make it cost crystals to change defense team. That is just a pay wall and the one's at the top using the buddy system are already willing to spend

    Put a time on changing defense team or make defense team a one time set and done thing. If you can set a defense team it can be explioted in one way shape or form. Currently it is the 2 man buddy system where defense is changed back after a bit to a harder team.

    So lets say you go with the extreme option of only allowed to set defense one time. You now go to the 6 man buddy system, this is assuming rank 2 can only be seen by rank 1-6.
    How it will work:
    6 players get on the same leaderboard
    2 set really easy defense teams the others set harder defense teams.
    The 6 work together to get to the top and keep the 2 easy defense teams in ranks 1 and 2. Now the only players that can hit the easy defense team is player 1-6
  • Perhaps one way to do this is to scale the reward points vs power of the defending team. Make it bracket based so teams with naturally lower power like droids dont get impacted. Below e.g. 20k power grant minimal/zero points.

    Good idea but I think Unfortunately that can still be exploited, just in reverse. The idea of a defense team in the tournament is to make it harder for others to earn points.

    So in this instance what is to stop the majority from just putting in squads worth 0 points.

    Again the 6 man buddy system can expoit it.

    2 put in teams that give an OK amount of points the others put in 0/minimal point defense.

    Keep the higher ones at the top 2 spots and 6 players work to lock everyone out.
  • Right now, I have a few thoughts for tourney 2.0.

    * limit defensive team changes to one per hour.
    * give points for defensive team wins and characters killed.
    * Change the refresh scaling points to be far more inclusive ( less expensive but you encourage way more spending by dolphins and nominal FTP ).
    * Cap the total amount of refreshes in a 24 hour period. This makes it not PTW only, you need to maximize your d team and your offensive team for the most victories. it also makes it a real tourney instead of an auction.

    Right now this abomination is a naked cash grab and worse, for three days it encourages the most unhealthy behavior ( lack of sleep, glued to the screen, etc ). These upcoming hours are going to be beyond brutal.

    Again, the event is challenging and it was fun for the first hours. But this needs to be tweaked for version 2.0 because this event is just pure hell on earth after the first 24 hours even if there was no exploit.

    I think the setting a defense needs to be dropped completely I just don't see a way it can't be exploited.

    Defense team could be the last team you won on offense with.

    I could exploit the heck out of last offense wins becomes defensive team. Just awarding defensive kill points will be enough and limiting daily total refreshes Server just has to be sure to set your opponent to be the one with the fewest fights in your fight range. So instead of a choice of four, you get your opponent selected for you. This ensures two people just don't sit there and fight each other giving a ton of defensive points

    Surprisingly, anonymizing and randomize player names until the end of the tourney may be a highly effective anti exploit strategy as well

    I agree it could be exploited, but only for a very limited time. To win with a low level low gear team you would have to find another one to battle. So it will be some what exploitable but nothing like just setting a defense team.

    I don't really think there is a way not to if player input has anything to do with what team is used for defense.

    Maybe auto choice of opponents could help. The randomize names I don't think would work, might delay it but could still figure it out.

    I forgot about mods! So yeah you could even exploit Last team to win on offense easily, just have buddy remove all mods.

    True. That would be even harder for non-colluders to visually identify although its not ani-ohko-scrubs fast.
