Hello Crumb,
Welcome to the SWGOH team! I hadn't seen this thread at first, thanks for the introduction =) it's great to know our new community manager a little better!
I started playing SWGOH a week or two after it was first released on the Android store, along with my boss. We loved the game and played religiously for the first year or so, aided by a few crystals. We have very different play styles, and having a lot of experience running guilds, I started a guild that would feature variety among its players, but high standards (i.e. max raid tickets were required from all members at all times, minus occasional exceptions). This went extremely well, and we had a great culture, until the AAT raid came out. Long story short, Heroic was far out of reach, despite having many powerful players including one of the world's top ten at the time, and I was not able to keep the guild together. I quit, but came back to the game about a year later.
Everything had changed, but my boss is still playing and had a seat for me at a good guild, and I was able to catch up relatively quickly, and get up to par again (sort of). This is the longest I've ever played a cellphone game, generally gaming on the PC most of my free time. I love Star Wars and I really enjoy that I can share this experience with my boss and friend, and most of the content that comes out in SWGOH only serves to make it more interesting and exciting.
My favorite faction is Droids; when Jawa Engineer came out, I was already running a droid arena team, and was able to place #1 regularly in the arena, long before everyone got droids for awhile (and then the meta moved on and I could no longer win, lol).
If I had to make ONE change to the game, I would add crystals to ship arena payouts, similarly to squad arena payouts. There are many changes that would be more exciting, or rewarding, or save time, but this one change is simple and could help seal the deal with Ships 2.0. They've been re-worked, but there's still little motivation to figure them out, spend resources upgrading them, or even waste time battling them.
Every day, I do 1 ship arena battle - I maintain rank 399 (no one takes me off this spot, almost ever) and start a battle, and forfeit immediately. I might be able to reach a better rank, but with no crystals past rank 50, why would I bother? Clearly EACG is investing a lot of time and resources into the game's least-used (least successful?) feature - but without those expected crystals, are players expected to care? Just to drive the point home, maintaining a higher rank (say top 200) would allow me to Zeta one extra ability per 200 payouts - less than twice per year. However, increasing my daily crystal income a little would be far more exciting.
Anywho, that's my one great change over any other; I'm confident EACG will bring about any obvious improvements over time, as they always have. Sorry for the wall of text; I can't imagine how hard/impossible it is for you to read all the stuff that people post! I'm excited that you're here, and look forward to Crumb-improved communications ;)
