Both of these seem horrible flaws. Now yes, the length of the farm is absurd, but it wouldn't be an actual issue if it was just some character. This is MUCH worse than CLS.
You don't need Talzin/Wicket for the bonus tiers though. In reality even if you could care less about MT/Wicket...you'll probably end up farming Ewoks/NS eventually anyhow for the zetas.

You 100% need 7* wicket and talzin for the bonus tier. You don't have to use them in the battle, but to unlock the bonus tier you do need 7*. It's even shown in the video you posted.
Whales who insta-farmed MT and wicket to 7* have access to zetas every time the event comes back. Even if they make the event more frequent, that's just more zetas for them. While everyone else slowly gets the 255 shards they need, whales will get between 52 and 104 zetas (doubled if they did both MT and wicket).
Frankly that's fine with me; if they want to spend the money that's great. But we should be clear that this is a pro-whale event.
