How does increasing gear level and equipping gear affect stats?

The question is this: Something I have never understood - maybe someone can shed some light. When I equip an item that includes, for example, +6 speed, I see my char's speed stat is increased by 6...

So the speed would theoretically only go up when I get to the next gear level if I have a speed set on the char, correct?


If your toon is Gear 10 with 160 speed that includes a +10 from gear, a speed set will consider you to have 150 speed until you get to gear 11

However you will have that +10 speed immediately for all other purposes.
