How does increasing gear level and equipping gear affect stats?

The question is this: Something I have never understood - maybe someone can shed some light. When I equip an item that includes, for example, +6 speed, I see my char's speed stat is increased by 6...

Yeah that's true, it was explained in a video if they have 134 speed and gain 7 speed in G11 they would gain 13 speed from the speed set not 14 until they reached the next gear level.
