I need some squad help, please

I’m fairly new here. I started playing in Dec 2016 and I’m level 79 with a good crew of gear 8 guys. By lurking here I’ve been able to do a decent job, but mid-game I’m starting to slip, and was hoping a few enlightened people here could help me. My goals are:

swgoh.gg/u/morgan1109

1. Top 50 in Arena - You simply can’t hit top 20 on my shard without spending a ton (lots of 7 star Chaze teams)
2. Top 50 in ships
3. Finishing GW everyday
4. Top 5 in raids in a month, and top 3 in a couple months (GK shards require top 3 finish correct?)
5. To do well in the events (heists, EP, Yoda, Omega battles, etc)

So in short, my goal isn’t to be #1 in Arena, but to have a balanced squad for all aspects of the game. I don’t spend much. I dropped a Jackson ($20) to get the 80 Maul shards and get him up and running. Outside of that I spend $5-$10 a month for crystals usually to get a character to 6 stars for raids when they are close.

GW is going great. I very rarely can’t finish with a Dark side squad, a Jedi squad, and a Rebel squad doing the heavy lifting. I’m doing just fine in ships. I nearly always make the top 50 cut off, with frequent trips into the top 20. I’m holding the 7/8 spots in the raids with 9 level 85 guildies, but I plan to move up soon.

Arena is my main struggle. My guess is I am light on Mods? I’ve been using most of my cantina energy to attain character shards. Ahsoka was my first chromium, so I relied on jedi early and had no problem getting in the top 100. I came here and realized I needed to hit Rebels hard. Once I had them built up I was in top 50 frequently approaching 25. A month ago I slipped out of top 50, then ground some cantina energy to get some good speed arrows for Boba/ST Han/Biggs. That got me back in top 50 again. I haven’t had any luck at all getting decent speed bumps outside of those arrows. Any suggestions? This weekend my team cratered. Over the last couple days I’ve been struggling to keep 100. It’s time for a change. I need to figure it out quick, heh heh. Those crystals are mighty precious when FTP.

Keep in mind, I am FTP so tokens are the primary way to level my guys. Right now my primary goal is to get IGD and JKA up to 7 star for the Yoda event (cantina energy, guild tokens, and regular energy). After that I’ll have some time before the EP event when I need to 7 star Ackbar. What I am building right now is:

Guild tokens: IGD & Jyn
Cantina energy: JKA & IGD (Baze is still level restricted)
Cantina Tokens: 5’s (Ahsoka , QGJ, and Boba are already maxed)
Squad tokens: Sidious (weak on dark side and working on Sith team DN, Vader, Maul, EP, Sith trooper – STH maxed)
GW tokens: Teebo (move up Rancor leaderboard – Lumi, Biggs, Phasma maxed)
Fleet tokens – Chirrut, Vader, Vader ship, Rex, Rex ship, Maul, Maul ship - these guys are rare enough that I've usually got energy left over for equipment or various other shards.

Should I just finish off Wedge and Lando and hope for the best? Do I need to stop blowing regular energy on shards, and work up gear more? Do I need to blow all cantina energy on mods to farm better mods? Should I put everything toward Sith even though DN & ST will be 3 star for a while?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Morgan

GW: Farm Datcha and other jawa's to 5* before finishing Teebo, crit damage mods are essential, K2SO.
    Arena: Sidious, maybe Cassian next.
Cantina: Kylo. Very important character later on in the game. After Kylo, get the TFP. Besides maybe JKA or QGJ, Jedi just aren't good enough right now to be a priority.
Cantina store: 5's and the jawa, maybe FOO.
    Guild: Rex, Jyn, SunFac, Maul
Fleet: Chirrut(for the love of god please), and then ships only. Until you can get Zeta's, just focus on ships and your Chirrut.
Hard: BAZE!!!!! when you can that is.

Go ahead and 7* Wedge. Don't make Lando a priority. Sith wise, Vader, Maul, DN, and Sidious needs to be a priority. Depending on the lead, you'll need different characters. For example, for a Maul lead, Kylo should be the only non-sith character in the party.

    Hope this helps.
  • If you want team that does solid and top 20 in arena (I'm in a Feb 2016 Shard) go DROIDS!!!!!!!!!!!

Haha, I finish #1 in AAT, Top 20 in Arena, Beat GW in like 5 minutes, Top 3 in Rancor, and they're not the worse to gear.

So if you want 1 overall squad to do well across the board it's Droids, the only squad they can't beat is a non full sith Zaul team. This may change soon... (*Lobot*) #LOLBOT

They also have many options and compositions contrary to popular belief.

    Start with the classics Hk47, Ig86, Ig88, JE, B2.

Also, yes mods are huge, I recommend focusing on your arena team first, meaning if they are not in cantina then use the energy for mods.

OH, before anyone else though you have to have a scoundrel team to beat the last tier of credit heist, this is your number 1 priority if you haven't done it yet.

Droids were coming along, but I dropped them in priority until I regain top 50. I originally ran a QGJ (L) jedi/assist team so I had IG86 6 starred. I had to get IG 88 up to 5 star to complete the highest level heists that were open to me. Eventually finishing them off is a good way to make those investments pay off. HK is 5 starred to lead it, but B2 and JE haven't been started. JE is going to take months, so the droid team will have to wait, until JE is ready to go. Gearing and modding my arena team will be my main priority for a bit.

I'll reprioritize how I use my GW/Cantina tokens to better match your suggestions Aus10. I was already doing most of those suggestions, but hadn't thought about Datcha and Kylo.

  • Sounds good, just remember B2 is a character that is good in any composition not just droids so I would prioritize him. He can be under Rex, Boba, GK, Jedi teams, Rebel teams, Empire teams, etc...

By the way, my fast level 80 boba can solo the last level of credit heists. All of my other crappy scoundrels die in the opening round. I do have his leader ability omega'd, so no need to work too hard on other scoundrels. Just keep working on Mods. That's the best way to improve your squad. A super fast STHan is deadly. Since your close to FTP I'd recommend focusing on one goal at a time...
Hose close are you to farming Zeta's from ships? That's a pretty important goal which will help you achieve many of your other goals. Also you don't need to be top 3 to get GK shards. They just get more of them.

What has happened to the gaming industry when spending "twenty bucks plus five to ten per month" is considered f2p? Sad sad day.

@xpxnx, I just dropped 1400 crystals on a fusion furnace to get an arena character to gear 9, and don't feel bad about it, heh heh. I need 450 fusion furnace salvage to meet all my needs. The only way to make that happen in my self-chosen timeframe was to pay for some of them. I’ll probably end up buying every other fusion furnace and gathering the rest. That is $40 in cash, or the cost I used to pay for computer games back when we used to buy them at Best Buy (I am old).

It's just unrealistic to wait two months for a gear 9 arena team. I agree it is sad that spending a bit is basically necessary to be competitive as F2P. The gear bottleneck is very real, and very likely by design. When the bottleneck happens, F2P players usually start dropping in the standings because they can’t gear up as quickly as the payers. The answer to maintain position is to acquire more gear. If you can’t get it fast enough, you hit the various shops to augment what you can grind. The thing is when everyone throws cash at the problem, then no one is F2P anymore. They played me like a fiddle and I didn’t see it until it was too late. I was a little grumpy when I first made the connection. Then I was impressed by how masterfully it all unfolded. Those EA guys really know what they are doing (whether we like it or not).

I wasn't trying to judge, I just thought it was ironic that you spent a good chunk of cash on the game and still consider yourself a f2p. I've definitely been got by the industry myself at one point as well.

No offense taken at all. I was smiling as I typed that because I completely agree with you, heh heh. I shouldn't think of myself as FTP, and in truth very very few of us should:)
