Magmatrooper double tap?

So I recently used magmatrooper in a rancor raid and noticed that every time he attacked he was doing 2 separate amounts of damage. I know that on his basic he can hit 2 different targets and in this case it would be the rancor and the cage door controls during the second phase. But is it normal for magmatrooper to be doing 2 sets of damage like that and if so does that mean he is doing a lot of damage?
