Tenacity Up + Tenacity Down... how does this mechanic work?

If I remember correctly, it used to be that if both were applied, only the first buff/debuff was illustrated in the graphic and the other was still applied, but still active in the background.

Recently, I've noticed that if a toon has both T-Up and T-Down, they're both in the graphic above the toon. Maybe I'm late to the party, but... how do these mechanics interact? Do they cancel each other out, leaving a toon with the standard Tenacity VS. Potency check? Or does this play out another way?

We all know the RNG gods are always against us, but it seems that my experience is that having T-Down is strongly overriding T-Up.

If anybody can clarify how this mechanic plays out, I'll be very happy... and it should help more than just I with the strategery. Thanks to all in advance for their replies.

  • Thanks for asking this interesting question. T-Up is way overbalanced. My experience with having both is that T-Up still dominates. No data or vids to support that though. Wanna see dev response...
  • Tenacity up wins because it make you immune to debuffs, tenacity down is basically taking your potency up on an enemy that has it.
  • Both give a bonus/penalty of the same amount so they effectively cancel each other out when they're both on the character. I.e. If you had 35% Tenacity before, you'll still have 35% Tenacity after and be subject to the usual Tenacity-Potency check.
  • Confirmed that they cancel each other out, and it's like you have neither.

I still don't think T-UP is working as intended. It has and still behaves like pure debuff immunity in all areas of game. I've never put a debuff through T-UP even with 90% potency and potency up abilities like on Jyn, TFP with EP lead...

Yes, you are very late to the party.

They cancel each other out completely, leaving the ordinary potency/tenacity check there....the same way it worked before, except now you can actually see both icons.

Tenacity Up adds 999900% tenacity, which effectively acts like debuff immunity, except against unresistable effects, Tenacity Down being one.

Tenacity Down adds -999900% tenacity...the difference here is that there is a 15% base chance to resist. So debuffs still only have an 85% chance to land when they are attempted. I will make no secret of the fact that I think this mechanic needs to either go entirely, or be changed to 2% like dodge.

That is exactly how T Up works until you land T Down on it....
And T Down is unresistable so it's one of the only few debuffs that can go through T Up.
