But it’s still adding a percent. It doesn’t matter if it’s multiplying or adding when it’s value is 0. Defense penetration adds a flat number, so that’s why you see an increase. And it’s probbaly why you get full armor penetration even though I think many ships have more than 150 armor. Once you get any defense penetration at all the % bonus multiplies it to some extreme number.
I think the question here is, what does the stat, "Armor Penetration Percent Additive" do? The (additive) nature of the effect is clearly adding 999900% to THIS stat, not taking whatever 999900% of that stat's value and adding it back on.
Since this is a different stat than simply "Armor Penetration," we'd have to see how the code works. If "armor penetration percent additive" is itself a multiplicative effect of armor penetration added back on, then the fact that armor penetration is 0 matters. If it is a stat that directly negates the percentage-based value of the opponent's damage mitigation, then the fact that armor penetration is 0 wouldn't matter, since the 999900% modification is an additive one.
Only the coders hold this answer.
