Is it possible to get a refund on an accidental purchase?

My niece accidentally purchased a LSB, and I want to reverse this. I already reached out to Apple to request a refund, but I see some people on Reddit saying my account will be banned for that. Is that true? Is there any way to reverse the purchase while keeping my account? I haven’t touched the characters I received from the LSB.
