Lost access to my account from about 8 years ago.

I recently picked this game back up again and wondered if I could get my old account back. I made a new account on the email I had previously used for my old account. Does this mean I have lost access to my old account? Should I delete the new account (barely level 60) and try to get my old one back from the same email? Not sure what to do, any advice is helpful.
