Hi 27b05828df2c874b and icemanxman8 ,
I saw this fix over on the Steam community forums and it seems to work for most people whose game is crashing:
Originally posted by TypoKun:
1. Go to where you installed the game. If you don't know for certain, right click your game on steam, go to local files, then click on browse.
2. Copy the folders :
UserData
UserData2
UserData3
UserData4
UserData5
UserData6
Userdata7
UserData8
3. go to C: > Users > YOUR USERNAME> saved games > Electronic Arts > The Sims 25
4. Paste the folders in here.Hope it works for you!

yeah, I tried that, I didn't have a folder for Electronic Arts in my saved games folder. so I created it and made and copied and pasted
UserData
UserData2
UserData3
UserData4
UserData5
UserData6
Userdata7
UserData8into a C: > Users > YOUR USERNAME> saved games > Electronic Arts > The Sims 25. but no go. still crashes.
my map is empty so I assume it can't find that data but I don't know why.
27b05828df2c874b Try renaming the Sims 25 folder, now. The issue may have been resolved.

thanks for all the replies, after trying for two days straight after getting home from work and just giving up. I just went to see if Sims 2 would even run (it didn't, it crashed as soon as I tried). I refunded both games, I will wait to see if EA will fix the issues with the next few updates later down the road :(
