The Sims + The Sims Packs HELP!

I have spent all day trying to install and launch The Sims + The Sims Packs via EA App. I’ve failed, fixed, and failed so many times, trying to run this game. I have an older laptop with Windows 10. Bat first the game wouldn’t launch because of “corrupted files” tried repairing them twice with no luck. I uninstalled and reinstalled, that did the trick.

Now I’m getting an error saying “Vulkan Initialization Failed” I have no idea what that means. I only found one redit thread about people having the same issue. The best suggestion was to ask for help here. There was someone saying EA patched this issue but others saying it’s still not fixed.

Is this a common issue that can be fixed? Or is my laptop the issue because it is too old? Should I keep troubleshooting or just try to get my money back?

I grew up playing this game, it’s my favorite sims game. I have spent years trying to find a way to play it. I bought the complete collection, or whatever it’s called, years ago and could never get that running either. I was so excited when I saw these two classic sims games were rereleased! But after spending $42 and my entire day off trying to get it working I’m pretty disappointed 💔

    Hiya princesshannah98,

I really feel for you. I'm the same - loads of wonderful nostalgia wrapped up in the Sims 1 (and 2) - so it's heartbreaking when you're left alone to try and figure out why the game won't run.

Sadly nobody at EA cares, and they have no interest in helping you nor anyone else in this forum when it comes to glaring bugs and program crashes. It really annoys me that somehow it's okay for them to sell us an expensive re-release product that barely works as advertised, and then offer absolutely no support for it.

But hey - that's what the community is here for, and we can feel good looking out for one another where EA take our money and run.

Hopefully this will fix your issue with Vulkan:

    1. You need to go into Windows' settings, and find the 'Apps' section (the place where you uninstall apps).
    2. Look down the list of installed apps and find one named  "OpenCL™, OpenGL®, and Vulkan® Compatibility Pack".
(Note if you don't see that in the list then you need to check if your system is Vulkan compatible - grab the Vulkan SDK and run the vulkaninfo.exe executable to easily check for Vulkan support on your PC - if your PC isn't compatible then I don't believe you can run the game but don't quote me on that)
    3. Click on the "OpenCL™, OpenGL®, and Vulkan® Compatibility Pack" and select 'Uninstall', which will remove it from your PC.

Now try running The Sims 1 again and hopefully you won't get the “Vulkan Initialization Failed” error any more and the game will open.

I hope this works for you! 🙏
