The Sims 1 Legacy: Resolution Issue

Hello everyone,

I'm facing a resolution issue with The Sims 1 Legacy. Everything is working perfectly; the game starts normally with no errors or other anomalies. However, it starts in a very small resolution in the upper corner of the screen, while the rest is all black. The clickable area is as if the game is in full screen, making it impossible to play as I have to "guess" which black part of the screen I need to click to access the game functions.

This is how the game starts without applying the custom scaling. Notice that the clickable area in the upper menu of the game is actually in the black part of the screen where the mouse cursor is pointing.

Before posting on this forum, I tried several solutions and found some temporary fixes. The issue seems to be related to Windows window scaling. For some reason, the game is conflicting with the recommended Windows scaling (in my case, 150% due to my 4K monitor with a resolution of 3840x2160). A temporary fix I found is that if I opt for a custom scaling (any value between 100-500), the issue is resolved, and I can play without any resolution problems. However, this scaling is applied equally to all connected monitors (yes, I have 2, one 4K and one Full HD), causing one or the other to have a huge or extremely small Windows interface.

Additionally, my computer has been recently formatted. I've reinstalled the driver for my graphics card (Nvidia RTX 3070) multiple times and tried adjusting the game's individual settings to no avail. The only way I can play is by setting a custom scaling.

Could anyone provide a more permanent solution to this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

I tried running the game with the 150% scale at 1080p, no issues on my end.

Have you tried pressing Alt+Enter? You can press Alt Enter 2x or 3x to cycle through Windowed scales too.

Also, do you have an integrated GPU too or just the NVIDIA/AMD one? If you have an integrated card, try running the sims on it. I had some Vulkan bugs on my discreet card.

As a workaround you can try to:

Keep the Windows "Scale" at 100% and then go to Acessibility > Text Size and use 150% there.

I have tried pressing the Alt+Enter keys, but the issue persists. The game still has scaling problems.

I only have an NVIDIA RTX 3070 graphics card.

Regarding the suggested workaround: Using Windows' 100% scaling resolves the issue, but I have to deal with extremely small system elements. Even increasing the font size to 150%, the items remain tiny.

What intrigues me is that if I apply custom scaling, which can be the current 150%, the game opens normally in full screen, but the other monitor has extremely large items (unfortunately, custom scaling is applied to all connected monitors, and I can't customize it individually).

  • EA_CadeI apologize for tagging you in this thread, but could you assist me with this issue? I have tried everything to fix the problem, even formatting my computer, yet the issue still persists. 😭

  • Another patch has been released, and the problem still persists. It's really disappointing to have to mess with Windows settings to be able to play. EA, do something! 😭😭

joaozinho-jpeg. The new patch includes extra resolution settings in the in-game graphical settings (selectable when you enter a lot).

Have you tried setting the internal game resolution to 1366x768? (You need to close and reopen the game for the setting to apply.)

I repaired the game once again, and apparently the latest patch fixed the Windows scaling issue. I was even speechless when it started without any problems. Thank you to everyone who tried to solve my issue! ❤️❤️❤️

  • UPDATE: After the latest update, the game started having scaling issues again. It's exactly the same problem. I've already restored the game, but the issue persists. It’s really frustrating. 😔

  • hpzgreenblockThe real issue is that we shouldn't have to mess with anything. They should know that 1920x1080 is a normal resolution now and they were supposed to fix it in such a way that it would just work.

This guys resolution is 4K, I don't know why you mentioned me to talk about 1080p as it's completely unrelated to the issue.

My monitor resolution is 4K, 3840x2160, but regardless of the resolution I select in the game settings, the issue persists.
