TS1 Legacy - No neighbourhoods on startup and crashes without warnings

I tried playing for the first time today on Steam (after updating for Patch 3). Initially it loads into a neighbourhood, but there are no pre-made houses or families. I tried to visit Downtown and the game got stuck on a loading screen, and then crashed with no warning after I clicked the screen (because I was bored of the loading screen after 3 minutes). Trying to play again causes a crash to desktop without warning after "The Sims" splash art has finished "loading". If I delete the "The Sims 25" folder in my "Saved Games" folder, I can repeat the above crashing cycle.

System:
TS1 Legacy Collection
Steam; Patch 3; 12/02/2025
Windows 10
3440x1440
i5-4690K
AMD Radeon R9 200 Series
8GB RAM

  • The solution to the empty neighborhood, crashing on create sims has been found. Solution:

    Go to:

    - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\The Sims Legacy Collection

    - Copy the folder named "UserData" (Also UserData2,3,4 up to 8, those are the extra neighborhoods)

    -Paste "UserData"(and UserData2,3,etc) in C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\Saved Games\Electronic Arts\The Sims 25

  • Apparently before today's patch deleting the sims 25 folder was the fix, but this patch must have made that fix obsolete, I have the same issue

  • The exact same thing is happening to me. Just bought a steam deck to play this game. I installed it, and there's a neighborhood with no houses. When I click to create a family, the game crashes. I've uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times but nothing is working. cc: puzzlezaddict who was able to help someone else in a different thread to see if they can help us here!

This fix worked for me, thank you! I left "The Sims 25" folder populated with the 2 files that were already generated in it from the last time I played it, and just copied in the new folders. I've been playing since with no crashes, thank you! Too bad there are still numerous UI problems...

  • This issue should be resolved now.  For anyone still who is missing any neighborhood data (sims, lots, whatever), or whose game is crashing after the initial video but before loading into a household, you can try reseting your user data.  If you're not attached to your save, please go here:

    C:\Users\your username\Saved Games\Electronic Arts

and remove or rename the "The Sims 25" folder.  This will reset all your in-game progress, and the files and subfolders should populate as normal now.

If you still see missing neighborhood data after a reset of the Sims 25 folder, please post in the thread linked below stating what is missing and what platform (EA App, Steam, Epic) you're using.
