Blurry / Resolution Issues on Sims 2 Legacy

So, I just bought TS2 today here on Steam hoping to get a better, patched version of my favorite game.

 But after using it for a bit, it seems it's still unpolished and not what I expected....

I keep running into an issue, the internal resolution appears to be stuck at (what it looks in my eyes) to be 1536x864 (according to my screenshots resolution) even when I select 1080p in the menu. I've tried Windowed Mode, tinkering with the Graphic Rules and trying to force a larger resolution but to no avail.
It's really bothering me, the UI is very blurry and the whole game runs at a terrible resolution!

I found that this had been "fixed" in February: "The game sometimes launched at a small resolution (800x600) and then scaled that small format to fill the entire monitor" but it's still happening on my end. Changing resolutions doesn't do anything!

Please help.
