I'm sorry you're dissapointed. Apartments Life is one of my absolute favourites. I like taking a big lot and bulding a little "neighbourhood" on it. What I mean is there are a few homes and a little park with playground so I get my little open world where sims can visit each other without loading screens. My issue with TS2 is how challenging it may be for neighbours to meet naturally haha so it helps.
Sometimes I use AL to build areas similiar to my own – almost everyone lives in apartments where I am, so even though 99% of time I'm happy with typical suburban sims sometimes it's nice to make something familiar. Never played Belladonna Cove.
I think I have only two mods connected to AL:
1) http://cyjon.net/node/220 (Apartment neighbors and roommates will be chosen from the townie pool rather than social groups.)
2) https://modthesims.info/d/316426: (Enables player to choose cemetry for a sim that died in apartment.)
