Please fix the "Object Limit"

Hello,

An amazing coder named Will Nixon has been digging into a bug in The Sims 2 called the "Object Limit" and has figured out how it could be fixed.

The game has a signed 16-bit integer cap on the amount of OBJDs it can process at any one point in time. Please see his post here for a detailed explanation on what it is, and how it could be fixed:

https://www.tumblr.com/spockthewok/816320926857740288/object-limit-2-electric-boogaloo?source=share

He states that it is fixable with access to source code, which obviously, we don't have. Please remove this cap, as the amount of Custom Content available for The Sims 2 these days FAR exceeds the bounds of this limit.

Sincerely,

TeaAddict, BellaDovah, and many other members of the Sims 2 community.

(P.S. he also ACTUALLY FIXED pink soup. You might wanna check out his work)

I had to reactivate my account just to comment here. But other than my fellow community friends, I am not going to mince words here because EA has lost all of my goodwill over the past couple of years.

The fact that EA has re-released the game without fixing this issue (when it has only taken Will 2 days to look into without access to the source code) and without making the game 64-bit is an absolute scandal. Now that someone has done the hard work for you FOR FREE, EA should sit down and actually address these issues properly for once. I am tired of the lazy cash grabs, I am tired of being treated like an idiot by EA, I am tired of the excuses. There is no excuse now. So what is it going to be? Are you actually going to address it or are you going to ignore the fact that the solution has been presented to you on a silver platter, which inadvertently sends the message that you are officially dropping support for Sims 2? Because simply ignoring uncomfortable issues has been part of the EA playbook for way too long now, and enough is enough. If EA refuses to preserve this game for the future, others inevitably will. But I fear EA will not like the outcome of that.

  • I've never had the pink soup issue in Legacy, only UC. And I had no idea there was an object limit, I don't have enough CC I guess.

I will always vote for an optimized version of the game though. That would be so nice.

This is genuinely the thing that would get me to switch from my nice, comfy, stable, 20 year old CD setup to Legacy. I love my game, but the mesh limit means I just can't add any new CC objects now, and that's something the modding community can't fix. EA can, and I would pay for that fix.

Please fix the object limit. Sims 2 is the ultimate for custom world building which is why it’s still my favourite.

This would be incredible!! Or even better, a full 64-bit rewrite.

Of course, if EA is not willing to support this game, releasing the source code would be ideal. The community could (and would) fix the game entirely. The Sims 2 is a brilliant classic, an integral part of gaming history, and what the community could create with the source would be something beautiful. This game is worth saving and maintaining.

  • This is a very important and serious matter. We love this game; many of us have been here since the very beginning, or for a very long time. Not to mention that it is our sincere wish that these improvements be incorporated into—or implemented within—the game. I would also like to add that I simply cannot understand or fathom why the IKEA pack was left out. Please take a look at this fix created by this wonderful young person; it is so incredibly deserving of your attention—he has created something truly magnificent!

  • I agree with what's being asked, and would add increasing the UI's resolution for those who play in 4K as a much-needed improvement that should have been implemented in this supposedly fixed legacy edition.

Hard argee. If EA shared source code for Command & Conquer games, they can at the very least do the same for The Sims 2.
