Sim Dissapeared

I do not know how this is even possible but one sim left home to go to the gym and when he came back, all of a sudden his wife was a man in a top hat? Even on the family tree it said that they shared their child together (not possible since my now missing wife birthed the child??) . Very odd, my sim is nowhere to be found. I'm so disappointed that this game is currently unplayable.
