sims 2 legacy edition not launching

I just bought the rerelease of the sims 2 and every time I click play it will launch but will bring me to my pcs home page and makes all my icons super large and distorted, and I can’t click anything. had to ctrl alt delete and force a restart to get out of the screen. attached is what it does to my screen. won’t even let me play. anyone know why this is happening?
