Sims 1 legacy lagging on big lots

Hello,

My sims 1 legacy wouldn’t work on my laptop, even when i tried to run it on an XP windows. 

very luckily, it works on my partners PC however it lags SO much on multisim households and big lots, meaning i can’t travel to any of the towns or play properly in any household with more than 1 sim. 

i have tried turning down the voices, graphics, running on XP windows makes it worse. Any suggestions?! It’s driving me insane
