I can’t write anything in the game. Not new names for lots, name anyone (babies, children, animals) or write in the cheatbox.
Please provide the following info:
- Does this happen when the game is running in windowed or borderless mode?
- Do you have other programs running when The Sims 2 is open, such as chat programs (e.g. Discord) or any other app that has text input?
- If you somehow fixed it, what steps did you take?

I have the same issue after the recent patch (along with the other issues of resolution making the text too small and edge scrolling no longer working). The writing works though if you quit the game and restart. It's an on-and-off bug. Patching on a Friday and leaving for the weekend isn't a great idea. No bugs affected me until these ones.
sometimes if you hit alt and enter then you can type.. just remember to hit it again to get out of that mode. and save.. bc my game is crashing a lot.
Ah I see there’s a post about this already. I made one just now but I see yours. The work around is to alt enter the game into a window. Minimise the window. Open the window gain and go back to full screen
It happens to me when I run the Sims for a second time without first restarting my computer. Windowed mode, with or without other apps running. I suspect young whippersnapper programmers are not wholly aware of the need for manual garbage collection in the ancient programming language The Sims is written in. Which is why a restart fixes it by clearing the cruft from memory.
