I've been having this issue as well (the date one). What helps is once some calls you/you call someone for a date, dont use the 2x or 3x speed. I let them walk to the drive way so when the taxi arrives they can get in asap. That's what helped my game anyway.
Whenever I do 2x/3x speed I instantly get the pop ups that I missed the date. Its annoying, but i've found that not speeding through helps.
