I did the same. I was so excited about TS4 "Smarter Sims" and the upcoming emotion system. The first family that I made consisted of an orphaned teen girl whose aunt moved into her home after her parents died. When I put them into the house, they despised each other. Yet, they kept seeking each other out, chatting it up, watching television together, and even hugging. When they became friends despite my intention for the game, I knew that "You rule", "Smarter Sims", and the emotion system were nothing but false advertising.
After so many chances, I've never seen anything from that promotional material actually make it into my game. If decisions that the player makes was supposed to be impactful, at the least, Sims should have been able to remember what happened two seconds ago.
