Antialiasing not working in fullscreen mode

Hello everyone,

It's been many years since I was once active here, usually offering help, but now I am finding I am the one in need of it.

Anti-aliasing isn't working for me in The Sims 3 when in fullscreen mode, although if if I press Alt+Enter and/or uncheck fullscreen mode... it appears to be working when in windowed mode. I am entirely stumped as to why.

It was working for me the last time I played it, but that was on Windows 7 (and an older nVidia driver version) whereas I'm on Windows 10 now (and nVidia driver 457.09). I am attempting to force it it via nVidia Inspector, as I did before. The odd thing is, the v-sync setting IS seemingly being applied with nVidia Inspector in both full screen mode and otherwise, so it's not an issue with, say, the wrong process being targeted to apply the settings to. Anti-aliasing just doesn't want to work when in fullscreen mode.

Does anyone have any ideas?
  • Try using the Nvidia Control Panel to enable the settings you want specifically for Sims 3. Right-click on the desktop and select the Control Panel, then choose Manage 3D Settings > Program settings, and choose Sims 3 from the list. (Use TS3.exe for an Origin install, or TS3W.exe (with the W) for a disc or Steam install.) Try these settings:

    Antialiasing - FXAA: On
    Antialiasing - Gamma correction: On
Antialiasing - Mode: Override any application setting
    Antialiasing - Setting: 2x

Nvidia Inspector isn't being updated anymore, so I don't know how effective it is with current drivers and their settings.
  • Wow, super fast reply for a place I thought would be inactive.

Thanks for the attempt to help! It seems nVidia Inspector is applying things right, as going into the control panel as you directed brings up the values I had attempted to set with nVidia Inspector. The anti-aliasing part just refuses to work in fullscreen modes, but works when not in fullscreen mode.
