So I had been playing the base game for quite a while, because, well, I was cheap. Haha. Well, I finally decided to buy an EP a couple weeks ago and figured since I was doing a legacy, what better EP than Generations? Well, I am honestly less than impressed by it. More-so annoyed by many of the new features, than anything. Don't get me wrong, I do love new items like the treehouse and other things. I also love the school stuff (prom, awards, field trips, graduation, etc.). That's where it ends, though. I think the 2 worst features for me are: the "reside over royal court" thing that the children do. They are hard to cancel out without them already changing into their new outfit and I hate that outfit. The way they change every child's hair with that crown. I thought it was cute when my first child did it, but after that... Nope. The other thing I can't deal with is the imaginary friend thing. I don't like it AT ALL. I play the game as reality-based as possible (I know I am lame and boring). I don't do supernatural things or anything, ever. I never buy those EPs that are exclusively like that for a reason. I figured Generations being family based, would be more realistic. This imaginary friend thing is a built in feature that I hadn't been able to go away! (I did recently read up on how to change the likelihood of getting them with mods, btw so no need for more advice on how to do it.) I just think it was a stupid idea to begin with and to force it into the game was dumb.
Sorry for the rant. I just wish I had chosen a different EP. I am going to get a new one very soon. I am trying to decide between 3 of them: Ambitions, Seasons, and Uni. Any thoughts on that?
Generations was the first EP I bought, at the same time as I bought the base game. It's also the one I miss the most if I play on my laptop with no EP's. But I have completely eliminated the IF's with Retuner, and with my sims on low free will, my child sims don't ever preside over the royal court unless I decide they will, and that doesn't happen very often. But whenever possible, they always get to play submarine adventure in the bathtub.
Regarding the three you are considering, that's a tough one. I like all of them. But I guess Seasons is probably my favorite of the three, mainly for all the new recreational equipment and other activities they can do, like making snowmen, snow angels, and igloos, raking leaves in the fall, water balloon and snowball fights. I like anything that gives my sims new activities they can do.
I find it hard sometimes to remember what Generations even came with. Once I take out the Imaginary Friends, the royal court, scolding, boarding school, midlife crises and memory scrapbook system from my game, it turns into a very unmemorable pack for me.
Looking at the wiki it brought in new woohoo spots, after school activities, field trips, new parties, the daycare profession, the costume chest, online dating and a couple traits and LTWs. I'm sure if I ever played without it I might miss school activities and field trips but apart from that... it feels very empty.
I agree on what others have said about using Nraas Retuner to stop the autonomous royal court interaction.
The three you listed are all equally great EPs. I would buy them all but if you're doing it one at a time I would say Ambitions first.
@MKSizzle You are missing out,the video cameras are the it and all.You can carry them anywhere film anything it holds a boatload of tapes you can film sims doing goofy stuff sim family moments and you play them back on your TV even the largest size TVs you can watch your movies.
The record time can be be quite long and playback will repeat so you can watch your videos like a long movie with your wife on the couch.
Here is a sim dancing on a table which I recorded then played back on the tv behind her while she was still dancing.

I only did it when installing sims on a new laptop to test my graphics and video settings but figured it might be useful to show people who do not use video camera.
And used the camera to make jumbotron dancing shots of my models in a runway fashion show

Edit: If you like that first sim it is Jamie Jolina with black hair,It is hair from Late Night.IMO Jamie is pretty as a brunette since she is so pale.
Generations is a nice EP if you have the other EP's as well and use the NRaas Retuner mod to stop the annoying stuff. I hated the royal court and racing outfits too. But I don't see them now thanks to Retuner. ^^ Try to get ALL the EP's!
Generations is the EP I was the most excited for when it first came out because my favourite part of the game is family building!! I agree on both of those points though, those two things are very annoying, and I hate the autonomous pranks for kids and teens too.
In terms of which EP to get next, there's not much I can say that someone hasn't already put out there. I find that Seasons most seamlessly integrates into every game file without a lot of effort. Ambitions adds a lot of good features and is easy to pick up as well! University is one I was really excited for but I've only used the core draw of the game a few times. It's something where it needs to be your deliberate goal to use it, especially with the cost of university and having to save up for it.

I think reside over royal court is cute and how even siblings and parents will sometimes play along too. It would have been better if we could choose any outfit and hairstyle we want for the royal court/joyride/costume chest as a customizable option in the same way we can have our own customizable career outfit.
Generations added more for age groups and I'm all about wanting more than mainly adults and primarily adult females concerning CAS content. It helps to expand on activities across the ages and as a family-orientated type player it's definitely welcomed although I wish it had more. A lot of missed opportunities as is usually the case but for what it did include was still a great addition. I also really liked the lots it included.
Even though prom is a RH event, I created my own open prom. Though, I'd like to change it up the next time. https://s25.postimg.cc/gypa9cjdr/Screenshot-2679.jpg https://s25.postimg.cc/5ltaoti8v/Screenshot-3219.jpg

It does get annoying when they follow the Sim into the bathroom. When the imaginary friend starts walking around after your toddler ages up to child, wait until the child goes to bed. The imaginary friend will go back into doll form near the child's bed and you'll be able to put it back in your child's inventory. The child will still play with it, but it stays in doll form.
Oh, I had much worse problems with the one and only IF I ever had one of my children play with than it just following her around. It came out to where she was reading, and I think she was a teen at that point. It stood there demanding her attention, so I had her tell it to leave her alone. Immediately, the two actions that were in her queue, the chair she was sitting on and the reading action, got plastered over the entire top half of the screen, repeated over and over. That was the last time I ever allowed a child to play with an IF. From that point, until I started using NRaas mods and disabled IF's entirely, I would move all IF's into one of the parents' inventory, then put it behind a tree or bush on the farthest part of the lot from the house as possible. Later, I discovered they could give them to other sims as a gift, so I got them out of my household for good. Now I never get them in the first place.
