can i put my own students in university on the sims 3

I want to know if it's possible to make a household of about 8 random sims, put them in the university world and make them go to university by themselves without me having to be active on the household. I have twin girls and when they age to young adults, I'm taking them to university but I wanted to make like a custom group of friends for them but I want them to actually attend uni in the background and not just live in the neighbourhood if that makes sense. can somebody help me out, please? thank you!!

I'm not sure which neighborhood you mean, university or the homeworld. So, this may not be what you want exactly:

One method would be to use NRaas Traveler and MasterController and MC Cheats. NRaas Traveler allows you to bring along friends and romantic (inactive) relationships when traveling. City Hall or a computer>NRaas>Traveler>Allowable Travelers>Friends/Romantic>True. Then create the household of 8 random sims. Use MC to make all those sims friends with 1 or both of the twins. Then enroll them all to university together. Your active household would have to pay for their tuition, but you can use Familyfunds or MC to repay them. They'll all travel to university together and stay at the same dorm (or sorority if they are all girls). Then click on each of the 8 random sims>MC>Advanced>Selectability. That toggles whether those sims are selectable or not. If they are not selectable then they'll basically be NPCs and you won't have to control them. Your twins girls would then essentially be sharing housing with 8 roommates that you created.

At the end of the term...I'm not sure whether it's important to make those 8 sims selectable again. I've never used that MC function myself. I have brought friends along to university though. They'll return home with you at the end of the term and then return to their home lots after getting back (they won't be added to the household once back home). If you try this method out you might want to invite over the 8 sims to the home lot before enrolling and traveling to university. Otherwise you'll have to wait for those random sims to arrive to your lot before the group gets in the uni van. Finally you might have ask them all to leave when everyone returns home; I don't remember whether I had to do that.

Lastly, I don't know if you need any other NRaas mods to play an overstuffed household like this. I have all the NRaas mods listed on the Which Mod FAQ answer for overstuffed households and it's never been a problem for me to send 9+ sims to university.

If you want the 8 random sims to live in university instead of the homeworld, then I'd try creating them in CAS so they are in the Household Bin, then in the homeworld Edit Town click on the university icon in the upper left. That will load up university in Edit Town without having an active sim enrolled. You might be able to move the 8 random sims into an empty house. That might require changing the lot assignment to Residential>Regular. I've customized the university world by going into Edit Town from the homeworld, but I've never added sims, only lots. So, I don't know if this will actually work. (edit: see igazor's post below to enroll the sims if they aren't enrolled automatically.) You'd have to try it out and see. Save your game under a new name before trying anything. You cannot save while editing a travel world this way. You have to first transition back to the homeworld's Edit Town before you can save your progress.
  • An easy way to do it would be to body-swap 8 sims already in the university world. Make 8 sims and save them to the bin (not the library as a household). When your sim gets to the university world just select the 8 sims you want to replace and take them into CAS (one at a time), click on the bin of premade sims, select one of your made sims and accept. The sim will still be the original university sim, including name and traits but will have the appearance and clothes of your made sim. If you want to change traits you can always do that while you have them in CAS.

In addition: you need Mastercontroller for this.
  • Those using NRaas mods can force enrollment of placed inactive sims in a world with a functioning university by using MasterController. NRaas > MC > (Sim) > Intermediate > Career > Choose Academic Career. Otherwise yes, they may end up living at a dorm or frat/sorority house but still be non-students. :)

Wow! Very clever idea @Mikezumi !
  • @igazor and @TreyNutz thank you both so much! I'll let you know if it works in case someone else wants to know as well
