@faytheful no offense but this patch 1.69 has been going on for a year. There are several threads on this issue where if you use any new downloads you will be forced to patch 1.69. There is a sticky thread here in gen discussions and one in tech. My only advice is to get your money back from the new downloads you bought and buy them on disc to stay at 1.67.
that may be but I don't spend that much time on this site and I've never had a reason to research it. I never read the threads so I didn't know.
I knew about the game requiring Origin to run but didn't know about the game being updated as a requirement to install.
Unfortunately your a new comer to the dreadful news of this new patch. There are many of us who went out and made sure we bought the game all disc and some hit up a steam sale to buy the whole game there to stay at 1.67 . These would be the two best options to stay away from the 1.69 patch otherwise your stuck with the 1.69 patch if you use any origin downloads
I knew about the patch to 1.69 and when it came out decided I didn't want it so I didn't patch my game & didn't upgrade Origin.
I just didn't know if I bought something for Sims 3 I would have to patch my game to install it.
I tried to stay away from 1.69 too. That's why they made me upgrade because I was at 1.67, but the reason for making me do it
still doesn't sit right for me. I only did it because I had already purchased the 2 stuff packs & the message said you have to upgrade the
game to install new content. After I did it though, I realized it was something I really didn't want to do & was the reason my game was at
1.67 in the first place. So I rolled back my system and uninstalled Origin, and was still in a bad situation because I couldn't install my stuff packs.
It is a lose lose situation.
at first you could still download packs and eps you did not have , uninstall the base game, reinstall it and patch to 1.67 and get rid of patch 1.69. When EA figured out people could do this, they changed it to make sure that anyone who uses origin downloads must patch to 1.69. If you tried to uninstall the base game origin would remove any new eps or packs you added
that's awful, its like strong arm.
There must be another reason why they want everyone on Origin besides games on their server.
I think I know what it is but I'm not for sure so not saying much about it.
EA wanted to make all the money for their games and not share with other companies. Origin came about after steam existed. Steam no longer sells EA games accept those games they had permission to sell prior to origin existing.
oh & who suffers, the little guys
Exactly. Its all about the money. It costs money to print discs. Like I said the sims 4 discs are useless you still need to be on line. Its much cheaper for a company to do download exclusive to the company where they make more money. No middle man, no printing discs. I dont even know why they put the sims 4 base game on disc when you still need to download stuff with the disc. Everything else is download for that game. This is why my house owns 3ds and playstations where you still have the option to play without internet access also some new playstation games require download for extra content. At least you still have the option to not have internet.
yep good deal that (games that can play without internet)
I have a few of those on my computer
I prefer not to play with the internet. We have power outages a lot where I live. 3ds, my kindle and my phone come in handy to pass the time watching movies, reading or playing games off line in candle light :p
wish I could figure out a way to install & play my Sims 3 game without the internet. (well really Origin because Origin
is the main problem )
I still have Supernatural I bought but never installed too & now thinking I will never get to install it
unless I give in to doing it their way.
I play without internet/origin but I have the old download version base game that does not require origin. My whole game was installed before EA got rid of that base game download that does not require origin and forced everyone to the 1.69 patch. If I ever have to reinstall, I have the whole game on disc so I'm covered there as long as my disc drive does not break. If that happened I would buy the whole game on steam.
IMO Supernatural is the best EP . So many have been forced to the 1.69 patch. Many say their game still runs fine and some have issues.
most of my game is on disk too.
I downloaded these two stuff packs from Origin, but I have base game, Ambitions, World Adventures, Showtime, University, Seasons, Island Paradise, Late night & Generations on disk.
I also have Pets, (forgot I had, just didn't install) and Supernatural (not installed)
I bought some stuff packs, guess I bought them online because I don't have disks here.
They are high end loft, outdoor living stuff, Master Suite & Fast lane stuff.
edit: forgot the 2 stuff packs I just bought; Town Life stuff & Diesel
of all this Town Life, Diesel, Supernatural & Pets is not installed.
And considering what I just went through doubtful they will be installed.
Unless when I get the disks for Diesel & Town life I purchased they will install with no problem.
And if they do, maybe Supernatural & Pets will install too
Wasted money.
