Finally getting a new PC! Will it work?

Hey guys! It's been quite a while. I had to stop playing my game because my laptop just couldn't handle it. Rendering and load times were ridiculous and the lag literally caused motion sickness. So that being said, I am finally finally able to buy a new computer. I want to make damn sure that it can handle the game with no issues. Would this PC do the trick? Thank you so much in advance.

  • That PC should run the entire game (all EP/SPs) on high settings with a hefty dose of store/custom content and mods. Its only real drawback is that the SSD, the main drive on which Windows will be installed, is tight on space so you will want to consider installing the game and redirecting the user Documents folder (thus the TS3 user game folder along with it) to the much larger HDD so as not to have to constantly fight to keep enough free space on the SSD for Windows itself and the game to maneuver.

Usually we see the SSD in such a configuration being labeled as the "C drive" while the HDD will be the "D drive," but there can be variations on that. A larger SSD/C drive would be better in this regard, but not essential, and it will tend to drive the pricetag up. More RAM would be nice too if you intend to run other applications alongside of the running game, but that can always be added later if desired.

Like any computer with a modern and powerful graphics card, once you do have the game installed on it you will need to cap the card's fps rate as TS3 has no functional built-in frame rate limiter. We can help you with that task here if needed once you have the game installed on it.

Thank you for responding @igazor ! So I didn't realize that about the SSD vs. HDD. I may need some help with that as well. It probably is the simplest task, but I just want to make sure I do it right. It makes me wonder what I had been putting my game on on my laptop. I have to go take a look now. I am also hoping that, when I do get the PC and install the game, I can transfer my old sims 3 folder (with my old save). Hopefully that is possible.

You may not have had an SSD or two drives of any kind on your older laptop. The dual small C, larger D drive setup is only one of many configurations.

As long as your prior saves are not damaged in any way, they should always be transferable. So should most of the rest of your game folder, including content. But it's best to start out with a fresh game folder when doing an install on a new computer and test things out to make sure they work as expected before adding back in the older and ongoing stuff. :)
  • Ok excellent! I will get back in touch when I have it all ready. Thanks!

  • I just want to point out that you could do a bit better for your money, if you wanted. For example, this Cyberpower model is $765, with a slightly slower graphics card (upgradable to the card in the one you're looking at for an extra $14), 16 GB RAM, and the same processor and SSD/HDD combo. But since you can configure it yourself, you could swap out the hard drives for whatever you wanted.

If you're set on the Best Buy option though, it will work out fine, as igazor has already said.

Actually, looking more closely at the options, today's deal would make it $722 for a 1 TB mechanical drive plus the free 512 GB SSD being offered. Anyway, just something to consider.
