Moving Contents of Library Folder to new computer?

Recently had to reboot my computer, and consequently had to reinstall The Sims 3. I have all of my document files from my old computer in a back up folder, including all of the old files from my last Sims game. Right now I'm in the process of redownloading all my old store content, but I was just wondering about my Library files. I had several households I'd made over time that I'd love to keep. Can I just move all of the content from my old Library folder to my new one? (I'm on Windows 10 FYI). What about my SavedSims folder?

Thanks in advance!
  • @abe Yes, you can transfer households from the Library and sims from the SavedSims folders between installations, aqfter all, you can also upload them to the web for others to use :) All that is required is to ensure that you have reinstalled any requisites they have, such as build mode items, or CAS content in the case of Sims.

The only problem with the Library is identifying which file is which (if you need to) due to the way the game names the file with random numbers.

If you do need to identify specific Library files, you may find S3PE helpful for this.

  • I was even able to do the game file transfer back when I moved from the Mac version of the game over to Windows. And again when I switched from Origin to Steam, but for that last one the store content did need to be downloaded and installed over again. If your method of installation and account with the store are the same though, then that really shouldn't be a problem.

  • @igazor, waves back, just poking my nose in for a bit after a renewed interest in playing TS3 :)
  • @Aloura - I'm afraid there isn't any point in posting or our trying to have a conversation on these older threads as necro-posting is against the rules and the moderators are just going to lock the threads up before we are finished. Since you cannot yet start your own thread, let's revert to where you posted on the one for New Members if we could. :)

  • Yes on both, provided you have the EPs, CC, and/or store content (and mods such as those allowing for extra CAS sliders if relevant) in place again or else they won't look as you expected.

But I'm a little puzzled. If you have access to your entire TS3 user game folder from before the reboot, why not just copy it over? Then you only have to install the game and the EP/SPs, everything else would already be in place. Or was there something "wrong" with the game folder and you really want/need to do all of this?
  • @igazor okay good! Nothing was wrong with the game folders, I didn't move them over initially as I wasn't sure if I could just move everything over without something going terribly wrong (it just seemed too easy). So far all I've done is installed my games and my official EA worlds, so I'm glad to know the rest of the process is going to be easy!
  • What about if my old Sims 3 file was messed up. My game kept freezeing and wouldn’t come undone after a few minutes of playing so I just took it that fold and created a new by loading the launcher. I have family and builds in my game that I want to keep but I do t want the error to come back. So how would I be able to transfer everything back without causing the error. Has anyone else had this problem because this was the first time I ever had my game freezing like this.
